Downloaded and tried this app out — already love the look and feel of it... I genuinely didn't realise how much eye strain I was dealing with until I used it, so thank you.
Kind words from around the world.
A growing collection of reviews and notes from people who use Paperman.
Saving my eyes
This app creates a comfort that I didn't realize I was missing from flat, lifeless pages that left my eyes wanting for more. I'm a dark mode fanatic, and the paper texture really does make things easier to look at for long periods of time, especially reading text. Very quick and easy to disable for my photo editing apps as well, which was a nice surprise. Hard to describe, but once you use it for a day, you'll get it.
The $5 App That Reminded Me Why I Love Software
A couple of days ago I bought a little Mac app called Paperman. All it does is lay a soft paper texture over my screen — sounds silly, I know, but I spend entire days in front of this thing, and by evening my eyes and my head are done. Anything that helps, I'll take. Then I hit a bug. The next day I got a reply. Not a canned "thank you for contacting support" - a real person. The morning after that: "Hey, I've got an update - go check it out and please test it." Turned out the old version hadn't fully quit; I restarted it, and it worked beautifully. That exchange made my week.
Your screen will not be the same
Just like Sméagol finding the One Ring, life will never be the same after Paperman. I can't have lifeless, clinical, boring screen any longer. It's got customizations, lots of different settings, and it just works. Responsive devs too! Love it and will never stop using this. Thank you
Offers nice effects to reduce eyestrain; especially that due to the glare from light-/white-colored areas. Like the snooze function too, since a screen capture is affected by the on-screen texture Paperman produces.
Excellent App
Really great app for making pretty plain MacBook screen into paper like texture. Sunbaked Parchment is my favorite texture. It's night mode on steroids honestly. Also the customer support is phenomenal. Never seen anything like that from a billion dollar tech company so that's a plus too Highly Recommend!
Delightful
What a nifty little app. Been using it for a couple of days. Very few apps have such a net positive impact to life immediately. Highly recommend buying this and supporting the developers.
Genius!
That one app you didn't expect to like that much. How come Apple never thought of this? Genius! May you live forever to keep this app alive! 😌
Remarkable. I find it best when used at a very low intensity. But, the effect is very nice.
One of the best things I've spent money on in the App Store.
This App is SO Good! One of the keepers.
Genuinely eases eye strain, and outstanding support
Paperman does something most eye comfort apps don't. Instead of just shifting the color temperature, it adds a subtle paper like texture that softens the harshness of the screen. The difference, especially over long working days, is real. And it also works with my external monitor. What pushed me to write this though was the support. I hit a couple of issues on setup and the developer replied quickly, diagnosed everything precisely, and was honest and helpful throughout. For an independent studio this level of care stands out. Happy to recommend it
Totally worth it for eye strain sufferers
I was not expecting much, but wow, this app makes such an immediate difference! This, combined with a resolution modifying app like BetterDisplay has made such a difference on the ocular fatigue I encounter with the HiDPI displays on Mac computers. I'm not sure why a "simple" overlay works, but it does indeed reduce the on-screen contrast without impacting legibility (I'd dare say for me, the legibility is better now), and reduces the amount of refocusing my eyes perform. I don't care if this app makes any updates. Keep this thing running from one OS update to another, and I'll be eternally grateful.
Excellent!
Up until now, I've been manually adjusting my brightness and contrast to keep from straining my eyes, but this gets the job done way better. It's a lot like the e-reader filter I use on my phone and iPad. Yes, it's just software, but it's definitely effective!
My eyes are so happy!
Staring at my monitor all day is finally comfortable because this app magically transformed the harsh glare into what looks and feels like a textured paper.
This is an incredibly helpful app. Spending so much of my day looking at black letters on white background, I had no idea how much I needed this. My eyes thank you!
Addresses Bugs Quickly
I was impressed. This developer takes bugs seriously and fixed the app right away. Instant 5 star developer for me.
I am a former Software Engineer and now a Technology Teacher. While trying Paperman, I've found its natural, paper-like quality to be incredibly pleasant and easy on the eyes. It's a fantastic way to rediscover that 'human-to-paper' connection. Highly recommended!
Instant purchase. I was looking at e-ink displays and this might save me a big chunk of change.
Works like a charm. Love it!
The matte screen you need
I have been wanting a matte screen for my Mac for a while now. This app gives me the best possible solution. You can choose from a variety of textures and toggle it on and off as you choose. My screen looks cozy and reduces eye strain significantly, especially at night. One of my best purchases. Happy to pay for this. Works perfectly on Chrome as well!
Utterly delightful
Holy smokes, I didn't expect to get much from this app, but after two days I can't imagine living without it. Somehow it softens/diffuses the light coming off the screen, and makes it feel cozier and more welcoming. When I turn it off, the screen feels pretty harsh and sterile by comparison. Honestly a wild difference.
LOVE Paperman. It's been a game changer for eye strain. Worth every penny; PM3 is fantastic so far and addresses one of my biggest hurdles (full screen support). Cheers!
Instant relief
It's a great little app and offers some immediate relief. You feel less sucked into the screen and blinking much more naturally.
I am surprised how much I like this app. I read text a lot as a copywriter and constantly have eye strain. Can't really say if it helps with the eye strain yet, but I like the reading experience a lot.
This is very cool! When I first heard about this, I thought, uh ok. Then, I installed it to try it out. I'm 3 seconds in and I'm a huge fan!
Original et agréable
Cet utilitaire transforme l'aspect de l'écran et donne presque un sentiment de changement de texture, comme si on passait sur un écran e-paper couleur. Je recommande pour les longues sessions de travail sur des document texte par exemple.
oh yes
this is indeed the magic screen now that the paper man illusion is welcomed. and i do thank them kindly for the screen as paper (fantasy life of screen interactivity)!
You need to make an app for mobile. Been using it for 30mins and not going back.
